SENIOR SERVICES: Nutrition Program: The Senior Nutrition Program is sponsored by South Coast Business Employment Corporation (SCBEC) through its Area Agency on Aging (AAA) office. Funding from the Older Americans’ Act (OAA) helps support the program along with donations from local businesses and individuals. There are no charges for meals, although participants are encouraged to contribute to the program. 119,034 meals were served to individuals throughout Coos and Curry Counties during the 2003-2004 Fiscal Year.
The program is designed to serve persons 60 years of age or older and their spouses (of any age) who eat improperly due to financial limitations, lack of incentive, illness, limited mobility or other factors that affect their ability to select and prepare nourishing, well-balanced meals. Meals are served in senior centers and community buildings. The social aspect of the program is just as important as the meal itself.
