SENIOR SERVICES:
Nutrition Program:
Both congregate and home delivered meals are available at no charge for those over the age of sixty.  A donation is requested but not required.  Seniors will not be denied service because of their ability to pay.

The Senior Nutrition Program is sponsored by South Coast Business Employment Corporation (SCBEC) through its Area Agency on Aging (AAA) office.  Funding from the Older Americans’ Act (OAA) helps support the program along with donations from local businesses and individuals.  There are no charges for meals, although participants are encouraged to contribute to the program.

119,034 meals were served to individuals throughout Coos and Curry Counties during the 2013-2014 Fiscal Year.

What is the Senior Nutrition Program?
In 1972, the Federal Government created a Nutrition Program for the elderly as part of Title VII of the OAA.
The Four Main Goals of the Senior Nutrition Program Are:
To provide nutritious meals in a group setting.
To encourage social interaction and to reduce isolation.
To provide other supportive services to participants.
To provide homebound meals to homebound individuals.

The program is designed to serve persons 60 years of age or older and their spouses (of any age) who eat improperly due to financial limitations, lack of incentive, illness, limited mobility or other factors that affect their ability to select and prepare nourishing, well-balanced meals.

Meals are served in senior centers and community buildings.  The social aspect of the program is just as important as the meal itself.

Home Delivered Meals are Available to Persons 60 Years and Older:
The Senior Nutrition Program also provides for the delivery of meals to seniors who are homebound due to illness, disability or isolation.  Home delivered meals are available from all the meal sites.  Just like the meals served in group settings, home delivered meals contribute to the homebound person’s health and independence.
Nutrition Case Managers are available to help familiarize seniors with the program or to offer referrals to other services.
All Seniors are Invited to Attend the Following Meal Sites:
